some nights my jealousy rages, sparked
by inattention and bursts
from a hidden place;
a dark trunk that has caught
on fire in interrogation

who is that and what do they mean to you?

I burn myself to nothing
and you continue to gaze elsewhere:
a distant horizon,
a sunset,
a cloud shaped like your
dog.
I become a blaze for you:
my skin black cinder in a
pile at your feet.
you blow a kiss and I scatter
everywhere.
can you not see me taking out the
forest?
can you not see me thrown
to pyre?
can you not see me
swallowing you whole?

can you not see me
waiting here?

(sudden emotional rough draft, blamed on moon)
